 Reading is everywhere!

Reading better will help you with all your school subjects and life in general.

Our goals for you during literacy time are for you to enjoy reading and practice skills that will help you become a better reader. We would like you to be comfortable selecting materials that interest you and are at your reading level.  We want you to read a variety of types of materials.

During literacy time you will read to:

  • learn new ideas through reading
  • build knowledge of the world around you
  • learn new words
  • learn characteristics of different kinds or genres of text
  • improve your ability to predict what comes next
  • be able to read faster
  • support the development of your writing
  • develop confidence in your own abilities
  • entertain and inform yourself

Grade 9 teachers have spoken with you about what we expect from you with regards to behavior, attendance, and assignments. As well for the literacy class we expect that you:

·        arrive promptly with what you need for class – reading material, writing tools

·        help maintain a quiet, uninterrupted reading time

·        keep focused on the tasks assigned to you

·        always make your best effort

·        let us know how we can help you
